My name is Kelly and I’m first and foremost mum to a beautiful, intelligent, hilarious, super hero loving 6-year-old little boy named … you guessed it … Jesse. Our little man was finally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder one year ago at the age of five.
We live in the best country in the world, Australia and I spend most of my time juggling work, motherhood, my relationship with my partner, the household and our three dogs and six chickens.
Currently working in an Executive PA type role in a very corporate environment which quite honestly I don’t enjoy but pays the bills. My real love and passion is for animals and the environment which means I usually prefer hanging out with animals than most people. After school I floated around a lot until I did my studies in native animal rehabilitation but only managed to get a few months practice in the real world before I became pregnant with my Jesse boy.
In my experience talking with other mum’s on the ASD roller-coaster, there seems to be a stigma attached to openly communicating the hard times. I strongly believe that we as parents of children on the spectrum need to be sharing to the world all of our true struggles and triumphs. I gave this personal blog the tagline of ‘Autism Undressed’ because I’m not afraid to strip that stigma back by talking about my dark times. My hope is to encourage other parents to feel comfortable about being real with their support network of family and friends. Its hard, its stressful, it hurts but we need people to understand that.
I’m a tomboy at heart but I do love to get my girly on and everyone who knows me can testify that I LOVE to shop! I’m a fiery, passionate Aries who is loyal and protective to a fault. I call it like I see it, which can make people uncomfortable and I’m not one to shy away from a good debate so feel free to leave your comments.
